Pet of the Month

Congratulations “Sophie” Miller for being named Pet of the Month for November. “Sophie” is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Miller. As the winner, a portion of the care provided for “Sophie”, totaling $150.00 while boarding here in November, was donated as the Grand Prize by the staff.

The Pet of the Month winner is randomly chosen from all the clients who were in during the past month. All winners are automatically entered into our Pet of the Year drawing, which will occur in January. The Pet of the Year will be awarded with a credit in their account for all the services provided for the year. Food is excluded from this drawing.

New Puppies and Kittens

To help get your new family members off to a healthy start we will provide a complimentary physical exam to all new puppies and kittens. This is a great time to start them on our Puppy or Kitten Package. We look forward to meeting your new furry friends. Call 503-684-3132 to set up an appointment.

Making Provisions for a Pet After You’re Gone

Several of you have asked what could be done for your pets after you pass from this life. Several options are now available:

1. An honorary trust named The Morgan Bill is a tax-deductible option.

2. “Friends Forever” is a program managed by the Humane Society. Contact Gary Kish at 503-416-2988 for more information. No minimum amount is required.

3. Dove Lewis has launched a pet trust program for the placement and supervision of pets with lifetime veterinary care. This is a $25,000 minimum trust.

Contact Dove Lewis at 503-228-7281 for more information.

Things to Remember

• Poinsettias are toxic to pets.

• Tinsel can cause intestinal obstructions in dogs and cats.

• Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats.

• Keep antifreeze out of reach of pets! It is sweet so animals like the taste. Starting treatment in the first few hours after ingestion will greatly increase your pet’s chances of recovery. Just three licks of antifreeze can be fatal to a cat and it only takes about a teaspoonful for a large dog. Antifreeze causes crystals to form in the kidneys, which can lead to those organs shutting down.

• Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are toxic to both dogs and cats. Aspirin is toxic to cats, and if used in dogs the dose must be adjusted to prevent toxic effects. We have many other safe and effective methods to deal with pain management in pets.

• We have a very talented full-service groomer on site!

• Avoid giving table scraps from holiday meals to your pets.

• Check your pets for lumps and bumps when your brush their teeth.

• Tuesday is Super Human Senior Day. We will provide 15% off services for seniors.

Have a happy and blessed holiday season followed by wonderful New Year.

Sincerely, Ken Genova, DVM
